External Affairs - Communications Specialist

What We're Looking For:

Under the direction of the Communications Coordinator and the Director of External Affairs, the Communications Specialist is responsible for performing communications, marketing and public relations assistance, social media posting, graphic design, administrative work, and activities that pertain to special events, programs and all aspects of the organization's operations.

The ideal candidate will have the following responsibilities:

 

Marketing and Communications

  • Manage, maintain and review all initial requests for marketing materials and social media posts. Ensure requests meet branding guidelines.
  • Create and design marketing materials
  • Support Communications Coordinator with event communications, logistics, photography and administrative tasks
  • Prepare and maintain agency calendar of events

 

Public Relations Assistance

  • Conduct research on press outlets that cover topics related to the work done at Crystal Stairs
  • Assist in writing and proofreading press releases
  • Research various resources and partnerships to secure marketing and promotional opportunities for Crystal Stairs, Inc.

 

Social Media Posting

  • Research and provide suggested copy, images and ideas for social media schedule to be approved by Communications Coordinator (including ideas for fund development, events, public policy and general)

 

  • Weekly and/or daily posting to the organization's social media accounts as assigned and approved

 

Administrative work

  • Perform data-entry and editing to marketing and various databases
  • Answer e-mail messages from website inquiries
  • Prepare monthly KPIs
  • Organize digital and physical assets/materials/collateral to develop a comprehensive and consistent agency archive
  • Back up support for External Affairs Assistant

Full support of External Affairs Department, other duties and tasks, assigned as needed

 

EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES YOU SHOULD POSSESS:

  • At least 2 years of experience in a communications role (Bachelor Degree in Communications, Journalism a plus)
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills, specializing in storytelling
  • Solid knowledge and comfort with social media tools and best practices
  • Demonstrated ability to follow directions and implement feedback
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite; Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint is a MUST
  • Knowledge of Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Canva a plus
  • Interpersonal skills; having an outgoing and friendly personality is a plus
  • Experience with proofreading documents, articles or publications
  • Experience assisting with building partnerships with media a plus, but not required
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and communicate with internal and external customers who have diverse personalities
  • Ability to work well under pressure and tight deadlines
  • Must be a self-starter and able to work autonomously as well as a team player
  • Must have patience and able to adjust to last minute requests
  • Detail oriented and organized
  • Quick learner
