Crystal Stairs is one of the largest private non-profit child development corporations in the State of California. We help families locate affordable and appropriate childcare through a variety of services, working with childcare providers, educators, advocates, and community members to positively impact the lives of more than 40,000 children each year.

Programs - Trauma-Informed Care Advisor 

What We're Looking For:

We are seeking a Trauma-Informed Care (TIC) Advisor who will provide training and coaching for child care providers participating in the Child Care Bridge Program. All duties and responsibilities are performed in accordance with pertinent contractual obligations and department standards. Assistance provided by the TIC Advisor includes the delivery of quality services in the following areas:

  1. Provide one-on-one coaching, advising, modeling, mentoring and supportive feedback for Family Child Care Home (FCCH) providers in their home.
  2. Act as a resource and guide to FCCH providers in incorporating Trauma-Informed Care strategies in their curriculum to support trauma-exposed children in their care;
  3. Communicate with FCCH providers to gain understanding of mental health and behavioral concerns in the environment and develop a support plan
  4. Conduct observations and assist with providing technical resources for newly placed children.
  5. Participate in initial and ongoing trauma-informed care trainings for children, ages 0-5; maintaining and replenishing curriculum materials as needed.
  6. Develop and maintain well-defined lines of communication and professional boundaries.
  7. Coordinate and facilitate collaborative meetings with FCCH providers.
  8. Work collaboratively and cooperatively as part of a team with colleagues and staff within the Agency, the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS), Child Care Alliance of Los Angeles (CCALA), as well as other agencies as required for effective program implementation.
  9. Participate in collaborative meetings with the other external Bridge Coordinators and Bridge Navigators, DCFS workers, Foster Family Agencies, and other community partners.
  10. Maintain proper confidentiality procedures when handling records and information.
  11. Maintain records of program activities and track participation of providers.
  12. Prepare and submit required program reports, including Child Abuse reports as needed.
  13. Participate in staff meetings, roundtables, teleconferences, service area processes, and monthly reporting with external Bridge Coordinators.
  14. Represent Crystal Stairs and CCALA at designated program and community meetings, events and activities.
  15. Keep up-to-date with child development, trauma-informed care and mental health literature, research, and trends in the business and politics of early care and education.

EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES YOU SHOULD POSSESS:

  • Bachelors Degree in related fields of early childhood education, human services, social work, or psychology with relevant work experience may be substituted for education; Masters Degree, a plus
  • Minimum three (3) years experience of relevant work experience working with the following: children and families, including working with children ages birth to five years; facilitate trainings; experience and comfort with  public speaking; demonstrated experience in effective problem-solving and decision-making skills; and ability to work autonomously at multiple locations; Experience or understanding of FCCH providers is a plus.
  • Knowledge of California child development programs; trauma-informed care, mental health issues of foster care children, developmentally appropriate practices, effective teaching strategies, regulations, Community Care Licensing and DCFS; working knowledge or understanding of family child care homes, a plus; must have general knowledge of various County, State, and Federal contract requirements.
  • Must have strong effective communication, customer relations and presentation skills; must be flexible, innovative and adapt to the changing needs of the program, department and Agency; must demonstrate effective time management and organizational skills and the ability to successfully meet position requirements; must be able to manage multiple tasks, competing priorities and meet deadlines, with great attention to detail; must be able to develop training materials and demonstrate high proficiency in Microsoft Office Suites. Must possess a positive attitude and strong interpersonal skills including the ability to work effectively with diverse client populations and work cooperatively as part of a team.
  • Requires the exercise of some independent judgment and discretion in analyzing facts and circumstances and in the determination of actions to be taken within the limits of standard practice; involves application of broad knowledge of contract funding terms and agency policies and procedures.

 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS 

Must possess and maintain a valid California driver's license; have use of a motor vehicle; and provide and maintain evidence of automobile liability insurance; must provide verification of a valid TB clearance within last two years of start date; must successfully pass LiveScan fingerprint and Department of Justice (DOJ) background clearances prior to first day of employment; and must possess current First Aid/CPR Certification. This position is required to commute approximately 50-60% of the time; bilingual oral and written proficiency as required to meet the needs of the population served by this program.
