RESOURCE & REFERRAL PARENT SUPPORT COORDINATOR

SUMMARY:

The Parent Support Coordinator (PSC) is primarily responsible for the design and implementation of a progressive parent-focused program experience that will achieve Crystal Stairs' strategic goals and objectives. This will require a passionate, visionary and entrepreneurial approach to identifying and securing needed resources, both financial and non-financial, through strategic partnerships and collaborations. The PSC also plays a key role in the adoption, development and implementation of new or specially-funded projects as assigned. Under the supervision of the Resource and Referral Manager, the PSC will be responsible for compliance with related fiscal and programmatic requirements within and between Crystal Stairs and its partner agencies and organizations. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Translate the Crystal Stairs strategic goal of developing a parent-centered framework that fosters greater family stability and success into a progressive program experience that achieves desired outcomes;
  • Incorporate parent engagement best practices and relational and participatory parent-centered practices into the program design;
  • Provide supervision and support to the Parent Engagement Coordinator (PEC) and assist PEC and project staff in meeting project goals and outcomes for the Building Stronger Families Watts/Willowbrook project.
  • Identify, cultivate, secure and sustain strategic partnerships that contribute financial and non-financial program resources;
  • Promote and connect parents with knowledge and awareness of quality indicators and access to services through special events and resources;
  • Collaborate with the Crystal Stairs staff to maintain current resource and referral information for families on website and other media;
  • Ensure contract and budget compliance as well as funder reporting requirements are met;
  • Represent Crystal Stairs at meetings of professional organizations and community partners to inform, promote and leverage services for families;
  • Keep abreast of current trends within the field of human services, family support services, early care and education and related fields as well as the legislative issues and regulatory changes affecting families;
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Resource and Referral Manager and/or Senior Management.

 

KNOWLEDGE:

Understands and can demonstrate past success in: program and budget development and implementation, preferably involving parent engagement, workforce development or related areas; ability to work effectively with a wide range of stakeholders, including parents from diverse socio-economic backgrounds, community groups, and funders; ability to effectively communicate with adults in various settings and with varying learning styles; familiarity with demographic data, research and trends.

 

COMPETENCIES

 Must have strong written and verbal communication, presentation and customer relation skills; strong problem-solving, organizational and follow-up skills; self-motivated and action-oriented; must be flexible and able to manage multiple jobs simultaneously and meet deadlines; able to assess program effectiveness and make necessary adjustments to successfully achieve desired outcomes; must relate effectively with diverse groups and demonstrate cultural sensitivity. Possess strong expertise of PC software programs for word processing, spreadsheets and graphics.

 

COMPLEXITY:

Requires the exercise of independent discretion and judgment in analyzing facts and circumstances and in determining course of action for specific situations; Involves broad knowledge and application of social and human services, early childhood education and adult learning strategies and practices, and the child care delivery system.

 

ACCOUNTABILITY/SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

Working in the field and with minimal supervision, the employee independently plans, organizes and prioritizes work following established procedures and guidelines. Ability to work flexible days as work will include evenings and weekends.

 

IMPACT:

Individual performance can have considerable impact on the agency's overall ability to implement programs that would result in continuous funds for specific grants and projects. Requires regular contact with external agencies.   

 

EDUCATION:

Minimum Bachelor's degree from an accredited university; Master's Degree preferred. Relevant work experience in the above areas may be substituted for college level education.

 

EXPERIENCE:

Minimum of two to three years experience developing, implementing, and coordinating major programs and special projects in human services, workforce development, parent/community engagement or related areas. Minimum two to three years supervisory and program management experience required.

 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Must possess a valid California driver's license, have use of a motor vehicle and provide evidence of automobile liability insurance. This position is required to commute approximately 40-50% of the time.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Must be able to carry out all essential functions satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the job. Approximately 50 percent of time is spent sitting. However, will frequently be required to walk, stand and bend. Must be able to talk and hear well. Good vision is imperative. Occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Required to lift and/or move unassisted up to 25 pounds.
