Resource & Referral - Parent Support Specialist

What We're Looking For:

We are seeking a Parent Support Specialist who will assist with the implementation of services and activities for the Parent Support Program. All duties and responsibilities are performed in accordance with pertinent contractual obligations and department standards. The ideal candidate will have the following responsibilities:

  1. Work in collaboration with the Parent Support Coordinator to develop and successfully implement program training workshops, special events, group cafs and focus groups, and other program activities as assigned;
  2. Assist in the development and delivery of program collateral materials - e.g., flyers, newsletters, and special mailings; and presentations to promote program services being conscious of and sensitive to various language and literacy abilities;
  3. Plan, attend, facilitate and publicize educational, networking and awareness activities and special events aimed at promoting community involvement and social connections with and among families, as assigned.
  4. Work in coordination with the Coordinator to establish, develop and maintain partnership/relationships with public, private and community organizations to promote knowledge of and access to trainings, resources and supports that are responsive to parents and caregivers;
  5. Create and maintain a filing and tracking system for program events and activities; outreach efforts; and related expenses;
  6. Assist Coordinator in completion of agency and funder reports;
  7. Assist in research and identification of promotional items and materials to support program activities and events; working in collaboration with External Affairs and Purchasing Departments to ensure adherence to agency guidelines and procedures;
  8. Perform other duties as assigned by Parent Support Coordinator and/or Program Manager.
  9. Perform other tasks as assigned by the management team.

EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES YOU SHOULD POSSESS:

  • Bachelor's degree or Associate's degree from an accredited university or equivalent preferred.   Relative work experience in social services; case management; human development/early childhood education may be substituted for college level education.
  • Must have experience working with families receiving child care or other social support services
  • Must have a minimum of three years of job related experience; ability to identify and navigate access to needed resources; experience and comfort with public speaking and group facilitation
  • Must have experience and the ability to work with adult learners and diverse client populations.
  • Must have working knowledge of California's child care and/or social service delivery system; Must have general knowledge of various County, State and Federal contract requirements; Bilingual skills English/Spanish in both oral and written communication preferred.
  • Must have excellent communication, customer relations and presentation skills
  • Must be flexible with excellent time management, problem-solving and organizational skills with the ability to determine priorities
  • Must work well under multiple, competing deadlines and with great attention to detail; must be able to develop outreach materials and demonstrate high proficiency in Microsoft Office Suites
  • Must demonstrate a strong ability to work collaboratively with others at all levels of an organization and work cooperatively as part of a team with a positive attitude; must demonstrate sensitivity to the needs and reactions of people from diverse backgrounds and with different needs.
  • Must have the ability to independently plans, organizes and prioritizes work following established procedures and guidelines
  • Must have the ability to work flexible days as work will include evenings and weekends

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS 

  • Must possess a valid California Driver's License, have use of a motor vehicle and provide evidence of automobile liability insurance.
  • Must provide verification of a valid TB clearance within the last year of employment
  • Must successfully pass LiveScan fingerprint clearance and Department of Justice (DOJ) background clearance
  • This position is required to commute approximately 40-50% of the time
